Don’t gamble with your child’s future just to make parenting easier-Sushma Shan-Riyad
As parents, sometimes we may not realize the impact our choices have on our children’s lives. The decisions we make for them today shape who they become tomorrow, and it’s easy to get caught up in the here and now, the colorful appeal of trends, or the pressure to keep up with what others are doing. But we must look beyond the temporary excitement and think about our children’s long-term well-being.
When it comes to things like makeup, hair colors, or access to mobile phones, the short-term pleasure may feel harmless, but these choices can have lasting effects on their physical, mental, and emotional health. Children’s skin is delicate, their minds are impressionable, and the need for constant approval can take a toll over time. As parents, it’s our role to protect them from influences they’re not yet equipped to handle, even if it means making unpopular choices.
It’s natural to want our children to fit in, to be part of a “fantasy world” that feels exciting and popular. However, sometimes the greatest gift we can give them is teaching them patience and boundaries. By setting limits on mobile use until they’re older perhaps until they’re 17 or 18 we give them a chance to focus on their academics, relationships, and self-discovery without the added pressures of social media and the digital world.
