A Wake-Up Call for Parents: Protecting Our Children from the Dark Path
Dear Parents,
The recent heart-wrenching crimes in Kerala, where children yes, our own children have turned to violence under the influence of drugs and bad company, shook me to the core. How did we get here? How did our innocent children reach a point where they take lives without remorse? This is not just a crime; it is a terrifying reflection of what is happening around us.
Our children are growing up in a world filled with temptations, easy access to harmful influences, and a dangerous glorification of reckless lifestyles. As parents, we cannot afford to be blind to the signs. We must wake up before it’s too late.
Here are a few warning signs to watch for:
- Sudden Behavioral Changes Extreme mood swings, aggression, or secrecy.
- New Friend Circle Avoiding old friends and being overly attached to a new group.
- Unusual Phone Habits Hiding chats, being restless about messages, or using secret apps.
- Decline in Academics & Interests Losing interest in studies, hobbies, or family time.
- Unexplained Money Issues Asking for extra money often or valuables going missing at home.
- Physical Symptoms Red eyes, extreme fatigue, or sudden weight loss.
- If you notice any of these signs, act immediately not with anger, but with understanding. Talk to them, get professional help if needed, and most importantly, be present in their lives. We cannot let another child be lost to this darkness.
This is our battle as parents, and we must win it with love, awareness, and action. Let’s hold our children close before the world pulls them away.
With deep concern,
Sushma Shan
